Dr. Gopika Myneni specializes in Diagnostic Radiology and Breast Imaging here at Iowa Radiology. A native 
of India, she lived there until she was 16, when she moved across the world to Chicago, Illinois.
Since high school, Dr. Myneni wanted to be a doctor; she was inspired by her uncle, a general practitioner. She earned her Bachelor of Science in biochemistry from Illinois Benedictine University and began her medical education at Rush Medical College in Chicago before transferring to Southern Illinois University, where her husband was completing his own medical studies. She completed one year of residency in pediatrics before embarking upon her four-year diagnostic radiology residency as her husband completed his gastroenterology fellowship.
One of Dr. Myneni's mentors was the director of the Radiology Residency Program at SIU, Dr. Kevin Coakley, who inspired her to pursue radiology as a specialty. After completing her residency, she attended a one-year women’s imaging fellowship at the University of Health Sciences in Denver, Colorado.
Dr. Myneni had worked at Mercy Radiology for a year and a half before coming to Iowa Radiology in 2005. She feels that Des Moines is a great place to work, live, and raise a family – she and her husband have two adolescent children. Although they love Des Moines, they also love traveling the world as a family and have visited many countries together. In her spare time, Dr. Myneni enjoys tennis and other games and activities with her family. She also works with charitable organizations that help provide clean water to impoverished schools in India and provide educational scholarships to underprivileged children in her grandfather's village, which she visits often.
Her favorite thing about her work with Iowa Radiology is the great environment; she says that the friendly, compassionate, and efficient staff and skilled coworkers make her job rewarding and enjoyable. She is gratified to be able to work with women during their early diagnosis and treatment and to help make a positive impact on their overall health and well-being.
